More news from Jeanie ....
Hello!!!!
Life here is so much easier without having to take a herc (plane) to work everyday doing flips in the air as we land:) (maybe a bit of an exaggeration - the flipping part). I'm now totally acclimatized to the altitude and can teach and run without feeling like a small (but fat) dwarf is sitting on my chest so I can't breathe. It's amazing how the thin air affects you! It took me about 3 or 4 days to be able to teach and now I'm just feeling better during the classes, which is a good thing because we do one or two a day right now.
The camp is great. Lots of scenery (in and out of the gym if you know what I mean:) ) I still have to take some pictures to send, I know, I know, my procrastination skills are still high. I'm becoming a bit of a clean freak. There is so much dust here that we have to wipe down every piece of equipment every morning (Monica, you'd be so proud of me:) ). I keep telling my staff that I can't wait until we're too busy to clean everyday...I think they like the way I think:).
We're (the fitness staff) are gearing up for our big RECSPO (a day of showcasing the fitness/sports/rec) this Sunday. And we've decided to add a dunk tank to raise money for Terry Fox....I can guarantee there will be pics to send after sunday! I've never had a chance to sit on the hot seat before so its pretty exciting. Of course all the military guys are asking us if we're wearing white for the tank....rrriiiggght. Although I've been saying yes to make they come out, then they'll see we're in our sexy beige drifit tops instead:). Its been crazy busy planning for this though so I apologize for not emailing very much to people this week. There's 3 of us and one computer....not great odds for emailing:)
For my birthday celebration we had a bunker drill (okay, maybe the 2 weren't related but it did happen on the same day). We caught wind ahead of time though and we stuck together with a few friends just before the alarms so when we had to go to the bunkers we could at least have some fun. Lots of corny jokes were told and then trying to freak each other out with saying "I think something just slithered over my foot!" (lights in the bunkers - no, bugs in the bunkers - yes). So yeah, THAT was fun:).
I'm actually having a hard time sleeping because every time my fan blows my hair in my face I wake up thinking a camel spider is walking over my head! And yes, they are here, big ugly suckers that apparently know tae kwon do and will take you on if you corner them. Why can't we all just be brothers? Luckily I have yet to have a face to face with one but once the camp teardown starts I'll probably have my choice if I want an eight legged pet:).
So its another sunny day in Kabul and life is good. (it's scary when all of us here start saying its nice and cool and the temp is +30!) So today is a bit balmy, but its only 10 in the morning:)
Miss you all!
Jeanie
