It's Memorial Day weekend in the States
... of course, "Canada" doesn't want to deal with such sacrifices, beyond a short ceremony every November 11. My uncle is on this page. He died August 26, 1944 near Bourgtheroulde, France. Thank you, Uncle.
My Dad was a vet, too. Of course, he survived. He was with the Canadian Forestry Corps, operating out of the north of Scotland, chopping and milling trees to be turned into some of the necessary bridges as the troops moved across Europe.
My mother went to London (it was her brother killed) in September of 1944, with the Canadian Red Cross, battle casualty records & canteen - was in the crowd at Buckingham Palace VE day, May 8th, 1945.

I'll thank him too. The last vet we had in our family was Great Uncle Lester who worked in Washington DC during WWI.
